You can reach the Sant Sebasti\u00e0 Lighthouse from Llafranc by walking, or by car, motorbike, bike, or using the tourist bus “Julivia.”<\/a> The lighthouse is situated at the top of the mountain, and the walk takes about 40 minutes with a considerable ascent (168 meters above sea level). It stands as one of the most significant lighthouses in Catalonia, the most powerful in Spain, and one of the lighthouses with the greatest light range globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apart from the lighthouse, you can explore the ruins of the Iberian settlement (6th century BC). Nearby, there is a simple and seafaring hermitage. A short distance away, you’ll find an image of Sant Sebastian, and according to legend, if you toss a coin into the bowl, you’ll find a partner (or “get married”) within a year. Feel free to try it if you’re interested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The panoramic views from the lighthouse are breathtaking, showcasing impressive cliffs seemingly dropping directly into the sea. Local stories tell of a dark episode during the civil war when people from the opposing side were thrown off the cliff, giving them the chance to fall into the sea and survive. However, due to the physics of the situation, they all hit the cliff before reaching the water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to local lore, someone once made a bet with Alfonso XIII that he couldn’t throw a stone from the top of the cliff directly into the sea. The stone, following the laws of gravity, hit the cliff before reaching the water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While it’s not widely known and lacks signage, it’s said that one of the viewpoints was a favorite of the journalist and author Josep Pla. He claimed that on clear days, you could see both the coast and the inland end of Empord\u00e0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
